Support wild pollinators at your workplace
Welcome to PLAN BEE. We work with organisations across Ireland to help them support our wild pollinators and create spaces where wild bees can thrive.
PLAN BEE is a business supporter of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan (AIPP). We support companies, public bodies and organisations that want to take practical action for biodiversity and contribute to the protection of Ireland's wild bees.
Based in Dublin-Crumlin, PLAN BEE provides talks, workshops and pollinator-friendly site reviews that help organisations understand the importance of pollinators and identify simple actions that make a real difference. Our work is guided by the recommendations of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.
We have worked with organisations including Applegreen, the OPW, Aparto, Dublin Zoo, Bloomin' Crumlin and TU Dublin supporting teams to learn about pollinators and helping sites identify opportunities to create better habitats for wild bees.
Our services include:
Pollinator talks for staff and teams
Workshops on supporting wild bees and pollinator-friendly planting
Pollinator-friendly site reviews with AIPP-aligned recommendations
Habitat support, including handcrafted bee stones made from Irish-sourced clay
Wild bees need both nesting habitat and food. Planting native flowers that bloom between March and October is one of the most important ways to support pollinators. Even small changes in green spaces, campuses, parks and gardens can make a meaningful contribution to biodiversity.
By working with PLAN BEE, your organisation can take practical steps to support Ireland's pollinators and contribute to the goals of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan.

Let's make a difference together because every little action counts.
Pick Your Bee Stone
Find a forever home for your bee stone

Sunny
Place the bee stone 1.5 - 2m off the ground in a south or south/east-facing position. Morning sun is cruicial.

Dry
The bee stone needs to be kept dry at all times. Make sure it is positioned so that the holes are not exposed to bad weather.

Sturdy
Securely fasten the bee stone in a sturdy postion at least a meter off the ground. This will prevent splashes from rain water and dampness.

Native Flowers
Make sure you have plenty of flowers from March to October. Starvation is the biggest threat for bees and wildlife. Let's feed them.

Avoid chemicals!
Pesticides harm bees and other insects. Baby birds can be poisoned if they're fed contaminated insects. Even homemade sprays (like nettle tea) can kill beneficial insects such as ladybug larvae.

Don't move it
Once a solitary bee choose your bee stone to lay her eggs, you should not move it. Leave it in the same position in the garden all year.

Few words from our happy customers

"As a new business unit in the OPW we the Biodiversity Unit are is looking to support biodiversity enhancements across all pillars of the OPW, to aid us in this ambition we enlisted the support of 'PLAN BEE'. We worked with Kirsten to develop a pilot training module for 'Native Wild Bees in Ireland'. Kirsten is great to work with and her enthusiasm and practical approaches ensured the course was well received by a diverse audience. The course has been a great success to date and is helping to raise awareness of our Native Wild Bees in Ireland among staff at OPW managed sites across the country".
Biodiversity Officer, OPW
"We found the Bee training day very useful, it has made all of us more aware of our solitary bees and their habitats on this site. We are also looking to create new areas where possible."
Head gardener, OPW

"We've installed PLAN BEE nesting aids in all of our student accommodations across Dublin, as a way to support local wildlife and to engage our tenants. The PLAN BEE team were able to fully customize our nesting aids to our requirements and were exceptionally communicative throughout the entire experience. They're a great home for solitary bees, who are crucial to pollinating flowers, and we are truly looking forward to reaping the benefits of having these bees in our expansive gardens.
PLAN BEE have also provided educational tools for our tenants so they can learn more about Irish bees, pollinators and plants - which have been a great hit with all who engage with the nesting aids. I would highly recommend any business or gardener, even just the eco-concious, install a Plan Bee nesting aid to help do their part for pollinators."

"I got mine as a birthday present, and at first, I didn't really know what it was. It came with a little magazine that explained the nesting aids, the Irish solitary bees, and how I could help them—all of which I thought was lovely. The nesting aids are really pretty, and I love the Irish symbols on them. I actually just got a second one for my garden!"
